TCU men’s basketball snapped their losing streak with an 11-point win against the Colorado Buffaloes, 68-57.
In a slow start, the Frogs missed their first five shots, forcing TCU to trail by eight points within the first three minutes of the game.
David Punch broke the scoring drought, giving the Frogs five points. This sparked the team’s momentum. The Buffaloes’ ten turnovers prevented them from creating a large point gap, but TCU failed to capitalize as their defense was inconsistent.
A three-pointer made by Jace Posey at the 4:20 mark gave TCU their first lead of the game, 26-24. As the first half progressed, TCU’s defense gained strength while Colorado struggled on both sides.
Following Posey’s three, the Frogs found their pace and the intensity picked up. TCU closed the half on a 16-3 run to make the score 34-27.
Brendan Wenzel opened the second half with an early three-pointer, and the Frogs maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the game, despite eight turnovers and getting out-rebounded 34-22.
TCU had strong ball control this game, keeping turnovers to a minimum. The Buffaloes totaled 19 turnovers, resulting in 28 Horned Frogs points.
Punch led the frogs with a career-high 19 points and three 3-pointers. Punch said he is gaining confidence, and his teammates have been encouraging him to shoot.
With improved defense and multiple frogs getting shots in, the team gained control of the ball and found their rhythm putting the frogs back in the win column.
TCU will remain at home facing West Virginia on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
