The Student Filmmakers Association gives TCU students a welcoming and low-pressure environment to explore the film industry.
SFA is a student-run club that produces short films. The members are in control of all aspects of the filmmaking process, including the writing, directing and editing.
Kate Schein, a junior film-TV-digital media major, and Michael Fazen, a sophomore FTDM major, are the co-presidents of the club. To them, SFA has provided a unique opportunity.
The club is a learning experience that provides members with a low-pressure environment. Members can explore the jobs within filmmaking and choose to hone their skills in one position or try them all. This allows members to narrow down their career paths by figuring out which positions work best for them.
SFA is a close-knit community that allows members to meet some of their best friends, Schein and Fazen said.

Joining the club provided Schein with a new community that positively impacted her college experience, Schein said.
Throughout the semester, SFA produces three major films and multiple one-to-five-minute micro movies between the major projects. Once completed, their films are posted on the SFA YouTube account.
Students learn to balance school and filmmaking throughout the semester. Although the films require members to work long hours, they make lasting memories they will cherish.
“Last semester, I was knee deep in the mud at 3 a.m. holding a light above my head for an hour straight…and it was totally worth it because the film turned out awesome, and it was a cool memory,” Schein said.
SFA is open to students of any major, with members meeting bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. in Moudy South.
