Sister Cindy, the controversial campus preacher known for her viral TikTok sermons, made an appearance at TCU this week, drawing a large crowd of curious students.

Sister Cindy, whose real name is Cindy Smock, has been showing up at college campuses for years, mixing religious messages with bold statements and humor. Her visit to TCU didn’t go unnoticed. Students quickly gathered around, some to listen, some to debate and plenty just to see what all the buzz was about.
She led students in a chant of, “Ho No Mo!” asked about drinking and sex and accused young women of being promiscuous. She singled out students wearing athleisure wear, particularly those in the Lululemon brand.
Many students saw her visit as more of a spectacle than a serious sermon.
“It’s hard to take her seriously,” said Claire Chahbandour, a senior political science major. “I get that she’s trying to make a point, but the way she delivers it is just so over-the-top. Most people were just watching for giggles.”
Others, however, found her words problematic.
“She definitely knows how to draw a crowd, but I don’t think that means her message is productive,” said Serena Gold, a graduate student. “Some people find it funny, but others might feel uncomfortable with the way she talks about women and relationships.”
A lot of people said Sister Cindy’s approach didn’t line up with the idea of grace and kindness.
While some students found her visit entertaining, others said she was giving Christianity a bad look.
