Fall intramural season offers diverse options

Intramurals at TCU will begin registration for the first wave of sports within the next week. From softball to paper football, the University Recreation Center is the place for students to sign up for any intramural sport they desire.

Here is a list of the highlighted intramural sports that Campus Recreation will be offering this semester.

Dodge Ball

For the first time ever, intramural team dodge ball will be an option for students. Because it is the sport’s initial season, Campus Recreation officials are very hopeful this intramural sport becomes a big hit.

“Instead of dodge ball tournaments, we are hoping that having an intramural sport will be successful,” said Mike Hackemack, the assistant director of intramural sports.

The format will be 6-on-6 competitions, and games will be in the special events gym. Registration runs from now until Sept. 9 for men’s, women’s and co-recreational teams. The season begins Sept. 14, and the cost is $35 per team. A mandatory captain’s meeting will be Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in URC room 048.

Flag Football

Flag football intramural games are always the most sought after intramural sport that Campus Recreation offers. Last year, 130 teams registered in a combination of the men’s competitive, men’s recreational, women’s and co-recreation leagues. Registration starts Sept. 30, and lasts until Oct. 14. The season starts Oct. 19. The flag football league is 7-on-7 and costs $50 per team.

For the second year, Campus Recreation will host a two-person scramble at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie. . This golf tournament is open to anyone within the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The cost is $100 per student team, and $120 for any faculty or staff team entry. The winning team will be awarded a free trip to Las Vegas to compete in the National Collegiate Golf Alliance Tournament, and golf, hotel, airfare and ground transportation will all be paid for by Campus Recreation. The three best faculty and staff teams will receive bids to the National Tournament, as well as the second and third place student teams.

Paper Football Tournament

Campus Recreation will host paper football competitive games on Sept. 30 in the University Recreation Center lobby. Registration for the event will begin at 6 p.m. in the lobby, and play will begin at 7 p.m. There will be no charge to enter into the tournament.
