Women’s golf heads to the NCAA Championship

The No. 19 women’s golf team finished eighth to advance to its school record fourth-consecutive NCAA Championship after Saturday’s final round of the NCAA East Regional.

The top eight teams from three regionals qualify for the NCAA Championship. The Lady Frogs began play Saturday two strokes out of the top eight. The Horned Frogs proceeded to shoot a 9-over-par 297, tied for the seventh-best score on the day.

TCU will be making its 12th NCAA Championship appearance and seventh under 16th-year head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. The Horned Frogs last won the national title in 1983.

The Horned Frogs are one of just 12 teams to record a top-20 finish at each of the last three NCAA Championships. This year’s event will take place May 18-21 in Wilmington, N.C.

Senior Valentine Derrey carded a final-round 72 to finish regional play at even-par 216 and tied for ninth individually. She birded two of her opening three holes on the day.

Derrey posted her best tournament score since also shooting an even-par 216 at last year’s NCAA West Regional.

Freshman Louise Kristersson shot a 74 Saturday and tied for 13th at 1-over 217. It was the fourth straight top-20 finish for the Skivarp, Sweden, native.

Kristersson set a personal-best with her 54-hole score of 217. Her previous best was a 225 at the Tiger/Wave Invitational in March.
