Rifle team finishes third at NCAA Championships

The TCU women’s rifle team improved one spot in the standings to finish third at the NCAA Championships hosted by Columbus State. The Horned Frogs shot a 2,351 in air rifle Saturday to finish third in the discipline. Sarah Scherer had the best individual day, taking home a fourth place finish individually.

Scherer was in second place going into the air rifle finals after firing a 595 in the third relay. In the finals, she shot a 102.0 for a final score of 697.0 which was good enough for a fourth place finish.

Mattie Brogdon fired a 581 and Caitlin Morrissey shot a 584 in the second relay to the Frogs going. Sarah Beard’s 591 and Scherer’s 595 helped the Frogs lock up a third place finish in air rifle. Not factoring in the team’s score was Catherine Green’s score of 580.

West Virginia took home the National Championship with a three-point victory over Kentucky with a final tally of 4,700. TCU finished with a total score of 4,664.
