Women’s golf in second place after MWC Championships opening round

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — Led by Prisela Campbell’s 70, TCU shot an even-par 288 and is in second place, just two strokes off the lead, after Thursday’s opening round of the Mountain West Conference Women’s Golf Championships.

TCU’s 288 set a school record for a conference tournament, breaking the previous mark of 290 at the 2001 WAC Championships.

Campbell’s 70 was a season-best round for the senior from Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas. It was also her low score since a then-school record 66 at the 2009 LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic.

Campbell’s five birdies on the day came in her opening 13 holes. She is tied for second, two strokes behind leader Ellis Keenan of UNLV.

The Rebels’ 286 has them atop the leader board by two shots ahead of TCU.

TCU senior Melissa Loh recorded three birdies en route to an even-par 72, leaving her tied for sixth individually.

Brooke Beeler and Rachel Raastad added 73s for TCU and are tied for ninth. Beeler had three birdies in a five-hole stretch. Raastad birdied three consecutive holes and had four birdies over five holes. She tied Campbell for team-high honors with five birdies.

Friday’s second-round tee times begin at 10:30 a.m. CDT for TCU. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
