TCU football commit finishes 6th in national training competition

TCU 2012 football commit Daje’ Johnson couldn’t repeat his record performance in the SPARQ Championship Finals Wednesday morning, finishing sixth in the competition. Landon Collins, an undeclared safety out of Louisiana, won the competition.

The championship is part of a week-long competition sponsored by Nike called “The Opening,” which comprised of 151 football players across the nation.

In the preliminary round Wednesday morning, Johnson, a running back/defensive back out of Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, recorded a score of 146.52, the highest in the tests’ history. Some of Johnson’s results included a 4.35 40-yard-dash time and a 41-inch vertical leap.

SPARQ, which stands for speed, power, agility, reaction, and quickness, is a standardized athleticism test created by Nike. More than 200,000 athletes have participated in the SPARQ test, according to a press release from Nike.

Beginning tonight, ESPNU will broadcast highlights from the competition, starting at 8 p.m. local time.
