Sports Weekend Recap

 

Women’s Basketball

The TCU women’s basketball team defeated Boise State Saturday night 74-68 on the road. The Horned Frogs improved to 9-10 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West Conference. Junior Delisa Gross and freshman Natalie Ventress both scored 18 points. Gross had a season-high of 18, which included 10 points in the second half. Ventress has led TCU in scoring in eight out of the last 10 games. TCU will continue its road trip at Air Force on Wednesday.

Rifle

The rifle team fired a university record-breaking 4,703-4,693 win over Kentucky at the TCU Rifle Range. The win improved the Horned Frogs 7-0 this season and extended their regular winning streak to 26 matches. Junior Sarah Scherer fired 597 to earn first place in air rifle, becoming the top finisher in all seven matches of the 2011-12 season. Junior Sarah Beard fired a season-high of 592 to finish fourth. TCU will host West Virginia Saturday morning at the TCU Rifle Range.

Women’s Tennis

The TCU women’s tennis team won its season opener, beating Syracuse 6-1 at home. With the help of two doubles teams ranked in the nation’s top 60 pairs, TCU won all three doubles matches. No. 57-ranked junior Federica Denti and junior Kelsey Sundaram were the first to win for the Horned Frogs. No. 31-ranked sophomore Millie Nichols and junior Olivia Smith clinched their doubles match. TCU will host Texas State and Lamar for a doubleheader at the Friedman Tennis Center this Saturday morning.
