At least 150 people are expected to give blood Tuesday during the Fifth Annual Commons Blood Drive.

Located in Carter Technology Center, the drive will benefit the Carter Blood Care of Fort Worth said Nicolette Avner, hall director for Samuelson and Carter Hall.

“It’s a great way to give back to the community and something that we’re bring here to campus for them (students),” Avner said. 

Originally, the blood drive was an opportunity for the residents of Samuelson and Carter Hall to give back but has now grown to include all of the Commons, Avner said.

“We’ve had a great number especially come in the beginning (of the event) and each year it seems to grow, from what Carter Blood Care has told us so they’ve really enjoyed coming back so it’s been exciting to see it grow from year to year,” Avner said.

Each person who donates blood can save three lives, Avner said.

“I mean it’s just a really great way I think to give back and to know that you’re helping to save three lives and helping to supply Carter Blood Care with the blood that they need to supply it out to hospitals and so forth,” Avner said.

The first 50 students who donate will receive a free T-shirt.

In order to give blood, one must be at least 18 years old, bring a valid ID, weigh at least 110 pounds and feel well and healthy the day of the donation, according to the Carter Blood Care website.
