A duo of track coaches is hoping to build up the program with a culture of positivity, motivation and hard work.

Holy Week, Easter, Passover events in the 109

In celebration and observance of Holy Week, Easter and Passover, local places of worship in the 109 have planned numerous events that welcome people in the community. Events range from worship services and meals to egg hunts and other activities for children. 

Arborlawn United Methodist Church

Arborlawn United Methodist Church will celebrate its first Easter in its new facilities, Rev. Ben Disney wrote in an email.

“At Arborlawn Easter is not a show or performance, it’s a celebration of the resurrection and a message of hope and promise to all of us who need both,” Disney said.

The church’s Holy Week events will begin on April 5 with the Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. The Good Friday Service on April 6 will begin at 7 p.m.  On Sunday, April 8, three Easter services will be held Sunday at 8:45 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:11 a.m.

Beth-el Congregation

There will be no evening service on Friday, April 6 as people are encouraged to observe the beginning of Passover with a Seder at home. Beth-el Congregation will hold the Congregational Second Night Seder at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 7. Reservations must be made in advance online.

A Yizkor/Memorial Service will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13. Kabbalat Shabbat Early Service will also be held on Friday at 6 p.m.

Congregation Ahavath Sholom

Congregation Ahavath Sholom will begin Passover with Shabbat Service and observance of the First Seeder on Friday, April 6 at 6 p.m. A Shabbat/Pesach Morning Service will be held Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m. A service and Community Second Seder will also be held Saturday at 6 p.m.

On Friday, April 13 a Kabbalat Shabbat Service will be held at 6 p.m. A Shabbat/Pesach Service will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14.

The Crossroads Church

The Easter service at The Crossroads Church will begin at 11 a.m.

The service will mark the beginning of a new three-week series, “Why we believe in God,” which will include demonstrations and congregation involvement Pastor Lanette Reed wrote in an email.

Fort Worth First Congregational

Fort Worth First Congregational United Church of Christ will hold the Maundy Thursday service April 5 at 7 p.m.

On Easter, the sunrise service will be at 8 a.m., followed by a breakfast and a children’s egg hunt at 9 a.m. The church will also have an Easter Celebration Service at 10 a.m., Rev. Katherine Godby wrote in an email.  

Southcliff Baptist Church

Southcliff Baptist Church will offer two Easter services at 9:20 a.m. and 11 a.m. These services will begin a new five-week series called “Intersections: Where God’s Love Intersects Your Life,” Share Pastor Stu Cocanougher said.

Prior to the services, the church will offer a free continental breakfast and the first 100 guests will receive a book about the meaning of Easter. All services will broadcast live and are archived online within the next day, Cocanougher said.

St. Andrew Catholic Church

St. Andrew Catholic Church will hold Holy Thursday mass April 5 at 7 p.m. The Good Friday Service on April 6 will also begin at 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 7 St. Andrew Childcare Ministry will host an Easter egg hunt for children in grades fourth and under at 1 p.m., Facilities Coordinator Michelle Truesdale wrote in an email. The egg hunt will take place on the soccer fields across from the church.

On Sunday, April 8, Easter Mass will begin at 6:30 a.m., which is 30 minutes earlier than it has been in past years, Truesdale said. Masses will also be held at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m and 12:30 a.m. For a full listing of Holy Week events visit the church website.

St. Stephen Presbyterian Church

On April 5, St. Stephen Presbyterian Church will offer Maundy Thursday services at 7 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The 7 a.m. service will take place in the chapel and include a breakfast following the service, the 5:30 service welcomes children and families and at 7 p.m. a traditional service with communion will be offered.

Good Friday service will begin at 12:15 p.m., with a luncheon after at 1:15 p.m. Starting at 6 p.m., there will be an Easter Prayer Vigil every three hours until midnight on Saturday.

On Sunday, the church will hold three Easter services, at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The Easter Sunrise Celebration will begin at 7 a.m. outside, if weather permits, and will include musical performances by the Youth of St. Stephen. Breakfast will be provided immediately after. Other services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. will have music provided by a brass quintet, organ and choir.  

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Maundy Thursday Services at Trinity Episcopal Church will begin at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, the Stations of the Cross will be at 12 p.m. and the Liturgy will be at 7 p.m.

The Labyrinth will be open for people to walk through on Thursday and Friday, Gartman said. On Saturday, Easter Evening, there will be service at 7 p.m. Easter Services on Sunday will be held at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 11:30 am.

University Baptist Church

The Maundy Thursday service at University Baptist Church will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Harris Hall.

The Good Friday service will be at 6:30 p.m., also in Harris Hall. It will be a Tenebrae service, which depicts the suffering, death and burial of Jesus Christ Sarah Thornton said.

“It is hoped that each person present will become more aware of the sadness and despair that was evident before and during the crucifixion,” Thornton said.

On Sunday, Easter services will be at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. 

University Christian Church

Maundy Thursday Service at University Christian Church will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Good Friday Labyrinth Walk on April 6 will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by a service at 7:30 p.m..

There will be five services on Easter. Sunrise Service is at 6:45 a.m. in the courtyard; traditional services will be at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary; and the contemporary service will be at 5 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

The contemporary service is casual and will include a band, not just an organ. Brunch will be provided after the sunrise service and will end at 11 a.m., Communications Director Carol Fewell said.

University United Methodist

Maundy Thursday service at University United Methodist will begin at 6 p.m. The Good Friday service will be at 5:30 p.m. During the service, participants will be given a puzzle to solve Executive Director Dana Boles said.

A potluck family picnic and egg hunt will be held at Foster Park on Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. The Easter Sunrise Service will be at Tillery Park at 6:30 a.m. Other Easter services will be held at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
