COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

Baseball team beats UNC-Wilmington 5-2, takes series

The TCU baseball team beat UNC-Wilmington 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

Jason Coats homered and freshman right-hander Preston Morrison (4-0) got the win on the mound for the Horned Frogs, who took the weekend series from the Seahawks 2-1. TCU (16-13) beat UNC-W 4-0 Friday night.

Morrison, who before Saturday had a team-low 1.18 ERA in 38 innings of relief, made his first career start, throwing 8.2 innings and giving up just two earned runs on seven hits, four of which were infield singles.

Right-hander Kevin Allen replaced Morrison in the ninth inning and recorded the final out of the game to earn his second save of the season.

Coats' fourth home run of the season came in the fifth inning and drove in Josh Elander to give TCU a 5-0 lead at the time. Elander, who went 1-for-3 at the plate, scored two runs Saturday.

Freshman Derek Odell led the Frogs with two hits, including an RBI single in the second inning. Jerrick Suiter had two RBI for TCU.

TCU will be back in action Wednesday at home against UT-Arlington. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
