Kevin Cron ripped a two-run double to right-centerfield in the seventh inning, giving the TCU baseball team its first hit of the game and the lead en route to a 2-1 win over New Mexico Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

With the win, the Horned Frogs (29-16 overall, 13-5 Mountain West) clinched the weekend series over the Lobos, moving back into a tie for first place in the Mountain West standings. 

TCU beat New Mexico 5-3 Saturday afternoon before losing 6-5 later in the day in the second game of a doubleheader.

Cron's double broke up the no-hitter for UNM's Gera Sanchez, who threw 6.1 innings and gave up just two hits on the day.

Andrew Mitchell earned a no decision for TCU, starting the game and throwing 6.2 scoreless innings, while striking out nine. Kevin Allen, who gave up a run in relief, earned the win, and Justin Scharf notched the save for the Frogs. 

Mitchell allowed six baserunners in the first three innings but battled through it to put together a solid outing, head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. 

"He did a great job," Schlossnagle said. "I think they were getting good looks at him, he just wasn’t throwing strikes. I think he felt fine, he was just out of rhythm."

Derek Odell had TCU's other hit, a single to rightfield that followed Cron's tie-breaking double.

Schlossnagle said there were times Sunday when his team could have given in but it didn't, staying calm under pressure and finding a way to win.

"We had opportunities to cave and we didn’t," Schlossnagle said. "If you hit .250 as a team and you have a 3.1 ERA, you’re going to play a lot of close games. So at least when you get in close games, you know how to play them and you don’t panic."

TCU will be back in action Friday at Air Force. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
