Ed Wesley signs with Dallas Cowboys

Ed Wesley is officially a Dallas Cowboy.

Wesley signed July 25 with the Dallas Cowboys, said Nina Zavala, the public relations coordinator for Wesley's agent, Jordan Woy.

Twitter has been abuzz with the news from Mark Cohen, sports information director.

Wesley left the TCU football team back in May for family reasons and the opportunity to play on the professional level, Cohen said. He applied for the supplemental draft and was accepted by the NFL due to his family reasons.

"He needed to make the move up earlier than expected and not continue with his senior year," Cohen said.

He was not picked up in the supplemental draft early this month after which he became a free agent.

He did have 12 to 15 teams come out to watch his pro day though, Cohen said.

Wesley appeared in 10 games with nine starts in the 2011 season. With 726 rushing yards, Wesley was second on the team and tied for second with six rushing scores.

Wesley, a Honorable-mention All-Mountain West selection was also named to the Maxwell Award Watch List and the Doak Walker Award Watch List after his 2010 season.

TCU 360’s Andrea Masenda contributed to this report.
