In an unrelated incident, shots were fired early Monday morning near an off-campus fraternity party in east Fort Worth.

Skylar Huey, Omega Psi Phi president, said he witnessed through a window shots fired into the air at a bar on Evans Avenue Sunday night adjacent to the Fort Worth Event Center.

The party, “Maxxximum Quepacity,” was hosted by Omega Psi Phi fraternity at the event center, and at least six students who attended said they heard shots fired. Huey said he did not think TCU students were involved.

Police officers responded to a disturbance call/fight at 2100 Evans Ave., Fort Worth Public Relations Officer Daniel Segura said in an email. No injuries or other major incidents were reported.

Jonathan Davis, a senior political science and psychology double major, said he saw a crowd forming on Evans Avenue when he arrived at the event center around 1:15 a.m.

“There was 50 people standing in the street, and a bunch of people were yelling at each other,” Davis said. “Some guy pulled out a gun, and another person pulled out a gun.”

Upon seeing guns, Davis said he drove away from the center and called 911. As he drove away, Davis said he heard four to six distinct shots fired.

Five minutes after shots were fired, Davis returned to the center to check on his friends. Fort Worth Police were at the scene and students were upset, he said.

"Everyone was having the time of their lives inside,” Huey said. “Why do people have to go and do something like that to ruin it?”

The party was evacuated  and everyone left within 15 minutes, Huey said.

The event center is about 11 minutes away from campus located off U.S. I-35 West. Huey said the party venue was the closest they could find.

“But looking back at it now, we’re never going back,” Huey said.
