Grambling State: Who to watch for

Grambling State: Who to watch for

Grambling State lost 22-21 to Alcorn State in last week's season opener for the Tigers. Here are two guys to keep an eye on during Saturday night's game between the Horned Frogs and GSU:

Dawrence Roberts, Running Back, Jr.

Dawrence Roberts compiled 1,102 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground last season. He averaged 110.2 yards per game and 5.5 yards per carry. The junior from Clearwater, Fla. was named the pre-season Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Roberts rushed for 98 yards in the first half of last week’s season opening loss to Alcorn State. He left in the second half with cramps.

Doug Williams, Head Coach

Doug Williams returned to his alma mater for a second stint as head coach in 2011. The former Tigers quarterback coached Grambling State from 1998-2003, earning SWAC Coach of the Year honors three straight seasons (2000-2002). Williams was also a finalist for the FCS coach of the year award in 2001 and 2002. As a player, he set multiple school passing records and posted a 36-7 record as a starter. Before starting his coaching career, Williams led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl XXII victory.
