The Student Government Association will work to get more involved with potential upcoming renovations to the first floor of the Brown-Lupton University Union around Union Grounds.

A student affairs administrator, Michael Russel, hoped SGA could create a new committee to get involved with the design process of potential renovations of the BLUU, said Lauren Sharp, SGA Student Experience Committee chair, during Tuesday’s SGA meeting.

The renovations would make the area around Union Grounds, the coffee shop on the first floor of the BLUU, more of a ‘student union’ or study area, Sharp said.

“They’re opening it up and putting in a bunch of tables and chairs,” Sharp said.

Currently, Union Grounds has two lower-lying coffee tables with couches. There are six higher tables with about 20 seats.

“Student space is something that I believe, as a student, is limited here at TCU,” Graham McMillan, vice president for external affairs, said.

McMillan said the purpose of the renovations is to create a space for relaxing and community that is separate from work or home.

Factors such as furniture, lighting and flooring are still being considered by the administration, McMillan said.

“They want the most student input, if possible,” he said.

In other SGA business, changes to the finance guidelines of the Student Body Code will be held off until a later date, said Zach Madel, chairman of the Finance Committee.

SGA also announced that it will allocate $1,700 to Disciples on Campus.

In addition, SGA will allocate $500 to the Advertising Association, the organization that provides resources for strategic communication, advertising, marketing and art students.

New campus food truck The Big Purple Truck will now also take Campus Cash, said Tim Klein, Dining Services Committee Chairman.
