Men’s club hockey team to play Texas Tech on Saturday

The TCU men’s club hockey team will travel to Amarillo this weekend with one thing on their mind: revenge.

When TCU took on Texas Tech two weeks ago, the Red Raiders took both games of the series; outscoring the Horned Frogs 20-2 in the two games.

After the last series, many Horned Frog players including TCU’s captain, sophomore Michael Authier, said the teams were evenly matched.

The biggest difference between the two teams was that TCU was without several key players due to injury, Authier said.

Junior Michael Papes, one of the players absent from the last series, will return from an elbow injury this week.

Papes said, despite his return, the Frogs will be shorthanded again as TCU is only expecting 10 or 11 players to make the trip to Amarillo.

“We are just going to have to focus on maintaining possession and keeping good positioning and spacing,” said Papes. “It won’t be easy but if we stay disciplined then I think we have a chance.”

The weekend series will be the first time TCU coach Mike Caressimo has returned to play on Tech’s home ice.

Caressimo coached at Tech for two years before coming to the university this season.

“Coach built Tech into the program they are before coming here, and we are hoping he can bring the success they have had over here,” Papes said.

The first puck drops at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
