Women of all ages gathered in the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility for the fourth annual TCU Women’s Baseball Clinic, a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Julie May, assistant director of marketing for TCU Athletics, said she was pleased with the turnout at this year’s clinic, noting that attendance has grown every year.

“I think that the clinic was a total success,” May said. “There are so many people at TCU in the baseball program and on the staff that have been affected by breast cancer. It’s just great to be tied to a cause and have everyone rallying together.”

Baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle said he felt honored to support Komen for the Cure, and he and the baseball team hope to continue doing so in the years to come.

“We want to do anything and everything we can to support the Komen Foundation,” Schlossnagle said. “And tying this in with baseball and tying it in with the beginning of our season is a great thing.”

Members of the baseball team kicked off the event with a fashion show of this year’s uniforms. The TCU Showgirls also modeled the latest trends in women’s wear on the catwalk.

Brian Cain, a sports psychologist and mental conditioning coach for the TCU baseball team, entertained guests with tricks.

Following the show, players conducted a question and answer session. Hot topics of discussion included everything from the meaning of certain hand signals in the dugout to who is considered the most attractive player on the team.

Raffles and giveaways were provided for those in attendance. An impromptu bidding war for a date with the baseball team’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Tony Vitello raised $700 for the Komen Foundation.

The event concluded with a chance for women attending the clinic to show off their skills on the pitcher’s mound and in the batting cage.

The Horned Frogs will play their annual alumni game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lupton Stadium. TCU will open the 2013 season at a 4 p.m. away game on Friday, Feb. 15, against Ole Miss.
