Falcons pound Riders with 16 runs

Fort Worth Country Day fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning but came back to tie the score in the bottom of the first and go on to pile up 16 runs against the Texas Home Educators’ Sports Association Riders Tuesday night.

The Falcons, playing their first game after spring break, beat the Riders 16-6.

“We haven't had a lot of offense in the first seven games but not only did we hit the ball well, we ran the bases pretty well, too,” head coach DeAnn Hall said.

Coming off five straight losses, Hall said the difference in her team was that they finally started hitting the ball hard. Country Day is still struggling on defense, though, an aspect of its game that needs to be tighter, Hall said.

“We will continue to focus on repetition in practice so our players continue to gain more confidence at their positions,” Hall said.

Freshman pitcher Adele Elkind came in without a warm up at the top of the second inning with bases loaded and threw well for the rest of the game. Elkind also hit the ball hard every time she was up to bat, Hall said.

“I was very proud of how our young team played,” Hall said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but it was a good start to the second half of the season.”

The Falcons will take on the Episcopal School of Dallas at 5 p.m. Thursday at Country Day.
