Defensive tackle Chucky Hunter named to national award watch list

TCU defensive tackle Chucky Hunter is the newest of seven Horned Frog football players to be named to a national award watch list this week.

Hunter, a junior from West Monroe, La., has been named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman.

Last year, the 300-pound Hunter recorded 36 tackles, including six for loss with 3 ½ sacks, ranked 16th nationally in total defense and ended the season as an All-Big 12 selection.

Hunter is joined by defensive end Devonte Fields and Jason Verrett, who were named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list this morning. The award is presented to college football’s top defensive player, and is the second defensive award both players are recognized on a watch list.

Earlier this week, the two were named on the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is an award for a top defensive player.

As of July 11, TCU has a total of seven players on national watch lists for awards.
