TCU leads in College Colors Day competition

Despite being one of the smallest schools competing, TCU currently holds the first place title in the annual College Colors Day competition.

The College Colors Day competition allows fans to go online and “pledge allegiance” to their favorite school, according to the competition’s Facebook page.

As of Tuesday, TCU, which is participating for the second consecutive year, holds the largest number of pledges over the 160 competing colleges, with more support than much larger schools such as Alabama, Florida or Auburn.

"We are the second smallest student body in the BCS, behind Wake Forest," Drew Martin, the assistant athletics director for marketing and licensing at TCU, said.

The competition began on Aug. 13 and fans can pledge once a day until Aug. 29. The college with the most pledges at the end of the contest wins a ten thousand dollar prize for the winning school’s general scholarship fund.

Martin and Deanna Damon, the administrative assistant for marketing and media relations, have other plans to promote the contest by encouraging student organizations, faculty and local businesses to support TCU's campaign through social media.

Damon said a separate contest will take place on Aug. 30 in which any group on campus will be able to submit pictures of themselves dressed for College Colors Day to Facebook. The most spirited and creative group picture will win a visit from SuperFrog.

Fans who pledge online can win gift cards and discounts on merchandise from retailers like Eastbay, Lids and Fanatics.

The competition encourages fans to then wear their favorite school’s colors all day on Aug. 30, the day before the first Saturday of college football season.

Fans can pledge online either at the College Colors Day website or on the Facebook page.
