The last time TCU women’s soccer faced North Texas, it ended the Mean Green’s 17-game unbeaten streak in Denton. The Lady Frogs will have another chance to top the cross-town rival on Sunday in Fort Worth. .
TCU will be looking to bounce back from its 2-1 loss against Illinois State on Friday. First-year midfielder Meghan Murphy scored the lone goal for the Lady Frogs at the 70th minute. TCU had a couple chances to score with 23 seconds left, but Illinois State junior goalkeeper Aryn Newsom denied a shot by senior forward Brittany Slyman.
The loss marked TCU’s first home-opening loss since 2006.
“We have to fix some things that we saw,” TCU head coach Eric Bell said. “Hopefully we can fix those things in two days and try to get better for the game on Sunday against North Texas.”
North Texas, who received a vote in the latest NSCAA poll, is coming off a 3-0 win over Sam Houston State on Friday. Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Riley shut out the Bearcats in her first-ever start. The Mean Green lost their starting goalkeeper, junior Jackie Kerestine, to a knee injury on Sept. 1 against Virginia Tech.
Sunday’s match against North Texas will be the TCU’s second chance to knock off a team that is receiving votes in the Top 25 Poll. The Lady Frogs tied No. 25 LSU on August 30 in Baton Rouge.
