Family Weekend has rolled around again, so here are a few suggestions for introducing out-of-town visitors to the city of Fort Worth. On Friday, start by checking in from noon to 6 p.m. at the Brown-Lupton University Union Auditorium, where Family Weekend apparel, information packets, maps and answers to any questions will be available.

1. Check out the Family Weekend schedule. The website has a full list of all things happening on campus and in the Fort Worth community. Many of the colleges will have a reception or open house for students and their families to mix and mingle, meet faculty and staff, eat and learn more about specific programs.

2. To escape the chaos of the city and enjoy hanging out under the night sky, check out Fort Worth’s new Coyote Drive-In. Stargaze, munch on some food and enjoy the view of the Fort Worth skyline while watching two movies. To see what’s playing, check the schedule. Showings start at sundown.

3. Check out the Fort Worth museums for free on Saturday. Enjoy the rich cultural opportunities the city has to offer during the seventh annual Day in the District. The ten participating institutions will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4. Join the crowd and cheer on the Horned Frog football team in the Battle for the Iron Skillet. The Frogs play their crosstown rivals, the SMU Mustangs. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Fans have been asked to help “Color Block the Carter” by wearing either purple or white, according to their seat location.

5. To experience the city’s history, visit the Fort Worth Stockyards for a night of Texas barbecue and dancing. Billy Bob’s Texas will host Sean McConnell on Friday night and David Allan Coe on Saturday night. Concerts start at 10:30 p.m.

6. Sign up for Sunday morning’s Graffiti Run, a colorful 5K that will be fun for the whole family. Participants will be drenched in a variety of colored powders as they dance, walk or run the course. To register, click here.

7. Try exploring the city by using Fort Worth’s new bike-sharing program. Visit the Fort Worth Zoo, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden or the shops and restaurants on Magnolia Street. A 24-hour bike-sharing pass starts at only $8.
