COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

Fields out for SMU game

Fields out for SMU game

DE Devonte Fields will not play against SMU after injuring his foot in the team’s last game, Gary Patterson confirmed Friday.

Fields limped off the field with a foot injury in the fourth quarter of TCU’s game against Texas Tech on Sept. 12. The sophomore has not participated in practice for the last two weeks.

The game against the Red Raiders was the first start of the season for Fields after he served one game and three quarters of a two-game suspension for violating team rules. Fields was held without a sack in the game.

Patterson said before the Texas Tech game that injuries could be a concern for Fields as he made his first start because he would be matching up against players who were already in game shape after playing two games.

The head coach gave no comment on the nature or severity of the injury and did not confirm whether Fields would miss any additional games.

Matt Anderson will start in Fields’ place in the Battle for the Iron Skillet, which will kick off at 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1. Fields had two and a half sacks and seven total tackles against SMU last season.
