Volleyball looks to rebound against Texas Tech

After losing three of its last four matches, the TCU women’s volleyball team hopes to start another win streak in Big 12 play against Texas Tech on Saturday.

The Horned Frogs (12-6, 1-3 Big 12) enjoyed a bit of a break to practice after losing to Kansas State last weekend.

Against the Wildcats, sophomore right-side hitter Blaire Pickens was the only Frog to finish with double-digit kills. Freshman libero Shane Peters added a career-high 23 digs. Redshirt freshman Trisha Langley recorded her first career double-double, but the Frogs could not stop a Wildcat comeback after leading 2-1 in the match.

Senior middle blocker Yvonne Igodan leads the team with 179 kills, but head coach Prentice Lewis said Igodan needs to step up for the Frogs to be successful in the Big 12.

"Yvonne obviously has to be on," Lewis said Tuesday. "She's our kill leader and has been a staple person who's just taken care of it."

Texas Tech (7-12, 0-4 Big 12) is looking for its first win in conference over the Frogs after falling to Texas in three sets on Wednesday. The Red Raiders started the season 5-1 before dropping 11 of the last 13 games.

Tech junior outside hitter Breeann David is second on the team with 185 kills. The Red Raiders are a defensive-minded team behind junior libero Rachel Brummitt, who sits at No. 2 in the conference and No. 16 nationally with 5.29 digs per set.

The two teams will meet for the eighth time, and TCU leads overall 4-3. The Frogs have topped Tech the last four times since 2008, and TCU swept the Red Raiders in both meetings in the 2012-2013 season.

The match is set for 5 p.m. at the University Recreation Center.
