Patterson talks QBs for Texas, TCU

TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday he is impressed by Texas, including starting quarterback Case McCoy.

“He’s doing the things they need to do to go win ball games,” Patterson said. “He’s putting the ball where it needs to be…I thought he was always a good quarterback anyway.”

Regarding TCU’s quarterback situation, Patterson said Casey Pachall has not been cleared to return to the field after breaking his forearm Sept. 7 against Southeastern Louisiana. However, the senior is meeting with doctors every week, and the coach said that it is possible that he could still play this season.

Patterson also spoke about what the Horned Frogs need to do to help the current starting quarterback, Trevone Boykin, have more success.

“We’ve got to do a lot better job of protecting him,” he said. “It’s hard to have confidence if you’re not feeling like you’re secure in the pocket and we don’t run the ball as well as we need to, to set those kinds of things up. There’s a lot of things that we need to fix.”

TCU plays Texas this Saturday at 6:30 on Fox Sports 1.
