With several players battling injuries, the TCU men’s basketball team (4-3) heads to Starkville, Miss., for a Big 12-SEC Challenge matchup with the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-1).

Despite recently returning from last year’s season-ending ACL injury, junior forward Amric Fields broke his hand Saturday against Harvard. The former Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year played well prior to the injury, averaging 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds off the bench.

Fields is expected to miss two to six weeks, TCU head coach Trent Johnson said. He has only played in four games this season.

Freshman forward Brandon Parrish was also hurt in Saturday’s loss, spraining his thumb. Parrish is currently listed as day-to-day alongside freshman guard Hudson Price, who sustained a concussion last week.

TCU made it to the finals of the Great Alaska Shootout last weekend but ultimately lost 71-50 to the Harvard Crimson. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Frogs.

Mississippi State is coming off an overtime win at home over Loyola-Chicago. The Bulldogs are currently undefeated (5-0) in Starkville, Miss. this season.

Their only loss of the season was an 87-68 drubbing by the Utah State Aggies in Logan, Utah. It was Mississippi State’s only road game of the season so far.

The Bulldogs, led by sophomore guard Craig Sword and senior forward Gavin Ware, average 72.3 points and 34.7 rebounds per game. They have outscored opponents 228 to 196 in the second half of games this season.

The Frogs’ matchup with Mississippi State is part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge, where schools from across both conferences face off during the months of November and December.

Notable matchups in this year’s challenge include Kansas vs. Florida, Oklahoma vs. Texas A&M and Baylor vs. Kentucky. The Big 12 currently leads the SEC 2-1 after wins by Texas and Iowa State on Monday night.

Tip-off for TCU’s game against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 6 p.m Thursday. The game is expected to be broadcast on ESPNU.
