Behind a great defensive effort, the TCU women’s basketball team cruised to a victory Sunday afternoon, beating UT-Pan American 73-47.
The second part of a men’s/women’s basketball doubleheader, the Frogs (6-3) held UTPA to two baskets inside the paint in the entire first half. 6-foot-1 senior Latricia Lovings added five more to her block total for the season, which since last year ranks first nationally.
Natalie Ventress once again led the Frogs in scoring with 18, while Zahna Medley and Donielle Breaux added 11 each. Ventress attributes her recent hot hand to simply finding her comfort zone.
“I’m just being confident,” she said.
Offensively, the Frogs had 16 assists to propel their offense, with Veja Hamilton tying a career high with five assists in the first half.
Head coach Jeff Mittie said he was much more pleased with the effort he saw today than in recent games.
“We strung together five or six good practices,” Mittie said. “We were playing together and it was working.”
For UTPA, KaeLynn Boyd led the team with 14 points.
The Frogs will next take the court against Abilene Christian on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
