TCU junior Nick Chappell advanced to the second round while junior Arnau Dachs failed to advance past the opening round of the USTA Challenger of Dallas, which will run Feb. 1-8.
Chappell faced Dallas native and Harvard graduate Sasha Ermakov in the first round, powering through a tough match to post a 7-6, 7-6 victory.
In the second round of qualifying competition, Chappell faced Evan King, a University of Michigan alumnus and 2013 Big Ten Athlete of the Year. King was stiff competition for Chappell, who ultimately fell 6-1, 6-4.
Dachs drew the No. 3 seed, UCLA product Nick Meister, in the qualifying round of the tournament, and was defeated 6-2, 6-3.
The Challenger of Dallas is the biggest professional men’s tennis event in North Texas, drawing talent from across the world.
