The “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” will broadcast live from the TCU campus April 9 for the tenth Annual Schieffer Symposium on the News, according to a press release.

The broadcast will likely happen in the convergence center of the Moudy South building, said Bob Schieffer, CBS’ chief Washington correspondent and TCU alumnus.

“This year we wanted to do something really special,” Schieffer said, “so I called Scott and Pat Shevlin, who is the executive producer, and I said, ‘What can I do to get you guys to come down to TCU?’ And they said, ‘We’ll come.'”

After the broadcast, Pelley will cross the street to Ed Landreth Hall, where he will join Schieffer for the symposium.

Watergate reporter Bob Woodward, The Wall Street Journal‘s Peggy Noonan and former Today show anchor Jane Pauley are among other panelists joining Pelley and Schieffer at the symposium.

“I think this is the best group of individuals that he’s selected,” said David Whillock, dean of the Bob Schieffer College of Communication. “I am very thrilled about it.”

The broadcast will bring nationwide exposure to TCU and the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, Schieffer said.

Schieffer said the technological advancements in the field of journalism have made modern times exciting for journalism students.

“It’s a long way from those days when I typed out my stories on a typewriter,” Schieffer said.

Admission to the Schieffer Symposium is free for all TCU students with a valid student ID. The public can purchase tickets starting March 8 at schieffercollege.tcu.edu.
