Steve Kintigh, director of Campus Recreation, died Thursday evening at age 59, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

His time of death was 5:06 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

A statement was issued Friday morning by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kathy Cavins-Tull, which said that Kintigh died surrounded by those he loved.

Cavins-Tull wrote in the email that Kintigh had been a valued member of the TCU community since 1984.

“Our thriving recreation, intramural sport and club sport programs were conceived and championed by him, and our remarkable campus recreation center was constructed under his leadership,” Cavins-Tull wrote. “He was a good colleague and friend to many as well as a mentor to hundreds of student staff members over his 30 years.”

Chancellor Victor Boschini has requested that the flags be lowered to half staff on Feb. 27 in memory of Kintigh, according to an email sent by Mary Nell Kirk, the executive assistant to the chancellor.

According to the email, services for Kintigh will be held Feb. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington Heights Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Feb. 26 from 6-9 p.m. at the home of Kintigh’s daughter, Kate Lovelady.
