KTCU will soon be the host of a new health-based radio show called the Wellness Spot, which will debut on March 2.

The new show will cover various health and wellness topics each week in a pre-recorded radio show that will air Sundays at 5 p.m., Cortney Gumbleton, outreach coordinator for the TCU Counseling Center, said.

The Wellness Spot will feature a guest speaker with expertise on that week’s topic, Gumbleton said.

Gumbleton said she will host the show along with Karen Bell Morgan, the assistant dean of Campus Life.

Topic ideas will come from the following dimensions of wellness: emotional, physical, social, environmental, occupational, spiritual and intellectual, Gumbleton said.

Gumbleton said some topics to expect for the show include digital detox, healthy sleeping habits, CrossFit and other exercise trends, top 10 healthy foods that should be eaten every day and positive body image.

“This could impact the student body by encouraging them to eat better and exercise more in order to live a healthier lifestyle,” Taylor Lepore, a junior business major with a minor in nutrition, said. “Students care about these topics.”

The purpose of the show is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about health-related topics and to introduce them to health-related resources on campus, Gumbleton said.

“With the Wellness Spot, Cortney and I want to provide educational information to make a profound impact on the lives of our listeners; thus, strengthening our campus and community,” Morgan said. “It is our goal to help provide skills and tools to our listeners so that they can live a healthy and happy life.”
