With only three games left in the regular season, the TCU men’s basketball team faces the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon.
The Frogs (9-18, 0-15 Big 12) have been on the wrong side of the scoreboard in fifteen straight games.
They also rank dead last in the Big 12 in scoring offense, scoring margin, three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage defense, rebounding and rebounding margin.
West Virginia (15-13, 7-8) brings one of the conference’s elite players into the game with junior guard Juwan Staten. He averages 18.1 points and 5.96 assists per game this season.
The last time these two teams met, Staten scored 15 points as the Mountaineers edged out a close 74-69 win over the Frogs in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The five-point loss is the closest the Frogs have come to winning a Big 12 game all season.
They’ve lost their last six games by a combined 123 points.
During TCU’s 76-54 blowout loss to Oklahoma State (18-10, 6-9 Big 12) Monday night, the team had only seven scholarship athletes available and six sitting out the game due to injuries or academic issues.
“We’re a tired group,” TCU head coach Trent Johnson said after the game. “We need two days off.”
Among the inactive players was TCU’s second-leading scorer in junior Amric Fields. The former Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year is still battling a recurring knee injury and has missed the last two games.
“It makes it harder for us, not having a full roster,” junior guard Kyan Anderson said during the postgame press conference.
Fields scored 22 points against West Virginia in the first game between the two. His availability for Saturday’s contest against the Mountaineers is still questionable.
West Virginia enters the game on the heels of a three-game losing streak at the hands of Texas (21-7, 10-5 Big 12), Baylor (18-10, 11-4 Big 12) and Iowa State (22-5, 10-5).
Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT from Morgantown, W.Va.
