Chile’s Guillermo Nuñez signs with TCU

Chiles Guillermo Nuñez signs with TCU

TCU men’s tennis head coach David Roditi announced Guillermo Nuñez is signing with the Frogs, according to a press release.

“Guillermo’s signing with TCU is very exciting for our program. He will make an immediate impact in our line-up,” Roditi said in the release. “Based on his ATP and ITF rankings, he is one of the top recruits coming into college next fall.”

Nuñez, a 5-foot-6 Chilean, was once ranked the No. 1 player in South America and has been Chile’s top-ranked junior player since 2009. He’s played in the juniors of three majors – Wimbledon, the French Open and the U.S. Open.

“It shows the trend of more top junior players coming into the college system to develop and get a top-notch education,” Roditi said.

He advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open last summer and holds over 150 career wins in both doubles and singles competition.

“I chose TCU because I feel that is the best place for me and my future,” Nuñez said. “I really like the tennis program and academics and this is definitely the place where I would love to spend the next four years.”

Nuñez joins fall signee Trevor Johnson as a member of TCU’s incoming freshman class. Johnson is ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Nevada and No. 14 nationally.

“Adding [them] to our team next fall will take our program to the next level as it should be one of the best recruiting classes in the nation,” Roditi said. “It took a complete team effort to make this happen and we are very fortunate to have the buy-in and support of our players.”

The Frogs enter postseason play at the Big 12 Championships next week. The tournament will take place on TCU’s home courts.
