COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

Brandon Carter’s college football career likely over

After a tumultuous offseason, senior wide receiver Brandon Carter’s career with the Horned Frog football team is likely over, according to a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Carter “academically will not make it” and “probably will not play this year,” according to the report.

“He has a redshirt year and I think the best thing for him is to [not take it and] get a new start,” Patterson said in the report. “It’s setting a precedent – you have to go to school.”

The 5-foot-11 speedster did not participate in spring drills due to academic concerns, and his future with the team became cloudier following an arrest for possession of marijuana in late April.

The charge was later dropped at the prosecutor’s discretion, and Carter remained on the team. As of 10:14 a.m. Tuesday, Carter is still listed on the team’s roster.

“Both sides tried,” Patterson said. “Brandon did and we did. He has a chance out there someday. He can still get his degree and do what he needs to do and still come out a winner.”

TCU had already lost two of its top receivers in LaDarius Brown and Cam White. White left football due to health concerns while Brown was removed from the team in February following an arrest on suspicion of marijuana possession.

If Carter has indeed played his last game for the Frogs, he’ll have finished his college career with 90 catches for 1312 yards and nine touchdowns. Carter made 12 starts and played in 35 games during his three-year tenure, according to his GoFrogs bio.

An email to TCU Director of Athletics Media Relations Mark Cohen regarding the situation was not returned.
