TCU announced a home-and-home football series with the Cal Golden Bears in 2020 and 2021 on Wednesday, according to a press release.

“We’ve got a lot of California people that come to school here,” TCU head football coach Gary Patterson said. “That’d be a way for us to go back.”

The Frogs now have home-and-homes in place with three of the four other Power 5 conferences: facing the Big 10’s Minnesota (2014-15) and Ohio State (2018-19), the SEC’s Arkansas in 2016 and 2017, and now the Pac-12’s Golden Bears.

The Cal series will be the first time TCU faces a Pac-12 opponent in the regular season since beating then-No. 22 Oregon State 30-21 at AT&T Stadium during the 2010 Rose Bowl season.

“We are excited to be able to add a pair of quality opponents to our upcoming football schedule,” Cal Interim Director of Athletics Mike Williams said in a press release.

“We want to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to play teams that compete on a high level nationally, and both North Carolina and TCU fit that objective.”

The Frogs hold a 4-0 record against Pac-12 teams during the Gary Patterson era, but Patterson said he’s not a fan of the time change the West Coast-based conference brings.

“I’m not a real big fan of going to West Coast time,” Patterson said. “Playing at nighttime and getting home at six in the morning.”
