TCU beat Abilene Christian on Tuesday night in the first head-to-head matchup between the two programs.
The Horned Frogs proved victorious in four sets, 3-1 (25-10, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16).
TCU entered the game against Abilene Christian with a 6-4 record, although only one of those losses had come at home.
After losing their last two games, the Horned Frogs were looking for a solid win over a weaker Wildcats team with less than two weeks until TCU starts conference play.
Junior Alexia Heist and sophomore Shane Peters held a strong presence in the back court, with Heist leading TCU in assists and Peters leading in digs.
The first two sets showed the Horned Frogs cruising with ease against the 1-8 Wildcats. TCU’s net presence greatly outmatched ACU’s, with the Horned Frogs riding off of great play from Stephanie Holland and Ashley Smith.
Both Holland and Smith put up double digit kill numbers and used smart ball placement to spread the floor.
The third set found the Wildcats at the better end of a few TCU miscues which kept ACU in the set long enough to hold the score to 15-15.
A couple net violations late in the set were enough to propel the Wildcats to a 25-19 victory and keep ACU alive.
The celebration was short-lived as TCU started quickly to open up the fourth frame.
The Frogs quickly earned a 3-0 lead and watched it grow to a 25-16 set win and a full matchup victory, 3-1.
With the win the Horned Frogs improve to 7-4 overall and 4-1 at home.
The Frogs’ next game will be this Friday at home as the Horned Frogs host the Bearcats of Sam Houston State. This will be the first of three home games TCU will play in the Molten Invitational, the final tournament before Big 12 play.
