COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

    WHATCHA SAY?

The Miami native will perform for students on Oct. 5 in the Campus Commons. This will be the first concert in the Commons since 2011.

Student body president, Cody Westphal, made the announcement Wednesday afternoon via email.

“We think that getting everyone together in that beautiful space is important to building community and tradition,” Westphal said. “Having the fall concert in the Commons is iconic and we are glad to be returning to the tradition started years ago.”

SGA officers chose Derulo–best known for his billboard hits “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Wiggle,” and “Whatcha Say“–after an intensive selection process.

One of the major obstacles that limited the SGA’s decision was the timing of Austin City Limits

Additionally, students requested something other than country, which limited the pool of artists to choose from. Navigating the music booking industry also proved to be difficult, Westphal said.

“The process has taken much longer than if we had pursued country,” Westphal said.“We think this is a worthwhile sacrifice, though, because we are dedicated to giving students what they want and deserve.”

Westphal said he hopes the concert is a memorable and enjoyable night for the campus as a whole.

“The fall concert is often one of the only shared memories that every student has together–besides football, of course–and we hope to make this one of the best memories yet,” Westphal said.
