Frogs for the Cure to give away 100 tickets to luncheon with former first lady

Frogs for the Cure (FFTC) officials said Thursday they will be giving away 100 tickets to TCU students, faculty and staff for a special luncheon featuring former first lady Laura Bush.

Bush will be the guest speaker at the Feed Your Pink Side Luncheon on Oct. 29 in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom as part of FFTC’s 10-year anniversary celebration.

“In the last several years, I’ve been really focused on bringing speakers in from outside that could bring excitement and energy to the message about supporting the cause,” said Ann Louden, chancellor’s associate for strategic partnerships and FFTC chair. “At last year’s lunch, I was already thinking Laura Bush would be the perfect person for the 10-year anniversary.”

Students and staff can enter a drawing at the TCU Bookstore on the first four Friday’s of Oct. at noon. FFTC will give away 12 student tickets and 12 faculty/staff tickets each week.

“I thought it would be fun to draw this out over October for breast cancer awareness month and to let people enjoy the game of registering and see who wins each week,” Louden said.

The ticket giveaway is the only practical way for students and staff to get individual tickets to the luncheon, Louden said. The remaining seats are being sold by tables, and the event “is almost sold out,” she said.

The BLUU Ballroom only seats 450 people, and Louden said “the demand to see Laura Bush is very high.” She said this was the only conceivable way to distribute tickets for the community-wide event.

“I knew I wanted to sell as many tickets as possible to give the benefit back to the cause,” Louden said. “But I know the original intent of having free tickets needed to be maintained.”

Louden said if students and staff want to see Bush but don’t win tickets to the luncheon, they can purchase tickets to the Sing for the Cure gala at Bass Performance Hall. Bush will be speaking at the program, which will be the same day as the luncheon and will have around 1,900 seats.

The Feed Your Pink Side Luncheon will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the BLUU Ballroom. The Sing for the Cure gala will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Bass Performance Hall later that day.

FFTC will also premiere its 2014 music video at the event.
