COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

Before kicking of his U.S. tour, Jason Derulo gave a thrilling performance in the Campus Commons Sunday night.

More than 5,000 people attended the concert, bringing a vibe different than years before.

“The last couple of years it’s been country so I really enjoyed Jason,” said Loghan Abila, senior criminal justice major. “It was fun!”

Derulo’s DJ, Orfilio Hernendez, also known as “DJ Papo,” said TCU was “honestly one of the best crowds.”

“Everyone was fearless and the energy was crazy,” he said.

During the concert, Derulo’s dancers chose six women from the crowd to join them on stage for a twerk contest.

The loudest cheers from the crowd determined the winners. The top three twerkers had the chance to go backstage.

The women had a private meet and greet with Derulo, where they also received his autograph.

“He was very open,” Ashl’e Caldwell, senior economics major, said. “There was something about him—he was just so nice.”

Sabrina Henson, first-year journalism and theatre double major, said she hoped to get on stage but never thought it would actually happen.

“It was an insane experience,” she said.

Rapper Luke Christopher opened the concert with DJ Wreckineyez. Derulo took the stage at approximately 9 p.m. and performed more than 15 songs.

Derulo showed his fans lots of love by ending the show in a TCU athletic jersey and throwing up the horned frog sign.

Derulo starts the U.S. leg of his tour on Oct. 15 in Royal Oak, Mich.
