TCU’s School of Music is inviting students, faculty and alumni with previous choir experience to perform one of history’s most popular symphonies.

The School of Music and TCU Symphony Orchestra will present Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Bass Performance Hall on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

All students with a background in classical singing are invited to perform in the finale of the symphony, “Ode to Joy,” said Dr. Kenneth Davis, interim Director of Choral Activities. 

Students with no prior singing experience can audition before Davis by singing for him. The audition is followed by a short interview with Davis.

Participation is voluntary and there is no payment for the performance. Interested students can register with this link.

Thirty singers are still needed for the final choir of about 150 singers, Davis said. 

There are four mandatory rehearsals before the performance.

Two rehearsals are on Sunday, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9 from 3-5 p.m. on campus. The others are at Bass Hall: Sunday, Nov. 9 from 8-10:15 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. before the performance.

Davis said he encourages students to participate in this unique opportunity.

“Performing the Beethoven Ninth Symphony is an experience of a lifetime,” Davis said. “I know a lot of singers have done it before, and everyone you talk to says it’s a highlight of a singer’s life. If someone has never performed it, I would say don’t miss this opportunity.”
