Report: Patterson promotes position coaches to co-defensive coordinators

A week after longtime TCU defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas announced his retirement, head football coach Gary Patterson promoted his linebackers coach DeMontie Cross and safeties coach Chad Glasgow to co-defensive coordinator, according to FootballScoop.com.

Glasgow has coached with Patterson for 13 years. He left TCU in 2011 to serve as Texas Tech’s defensive coordinator, but returned to Patterson’s staff in 2012. Three TCU safeties received All-Big 12 recognition in 2014.

Next year will be Cross’ third year as a TCU assistant coach. He previously coached Kansas’ linebackers in 2012 and was Wisconsin’s safeties coach and special teams coordinator in 2011. Last season, he coached Big 12 player of the year Paul Dawson.

FootballScoop.com is also reporting that Patterson will promote TCU graduate assistant Paul Gonzales to cornerbacks coach. Kenny Perry, who formerly served the role, left for the same job at Kansas in January.
