Weekend Sports Recap: April 17-19

Men’s Tennis:

The No. 7 TCU men’s tennis team drew a crowd of 2,112 fans when they played No. 10 Texas Saturday afternoon.

The Horned Frogs (20-6, 3-2) beat the Longhorns (18-5, 2-3), marking the first time since 2008 they have reached the 20-win plateau.

The win over Texas was the teams first since 1996. Texas is the fourth Top-10 opponent that TCU has defeated this season.

Men’s Golf:

Men’s golf earns a split at the Red Raider Shootout.

The No. 32 men’s golf team attended the Red Raider Shootout Saturday and lost to No. 10 Texas Tech 4-1-1. Later that afternoon they topped No. 20 New Mexico in a tiebreaker.

This victory marked TCU’s 18th win over a top-25 team this year.

Women’s Tennis:

TCU women’s tennis toppled Texas Tech, picking up their sixth straight victory and ninth blanking of the season.

The No. 19 Horned Frogs (17-7,7-2) defeated the Red Raiders (17-5, 7-2) moving into a tie for second place in the Big 12.

This is TCU’s first win against Texas Tech since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012.

Men and Women’s Outdoor Track:

The men and women’s track teams competed in the 2015 Michael Johnson Classic on Saturday in Waco, Texas. The weather caused the meet to end early, but the Horned Frogs picked up wins in the men’s 4×100 relay and men’s long jump events.

The women were able to finish third in the 4×100, placing them just outside the top 20 on the NCAA West Qualifying list.

Next weekend, the Horned Frogs leave Texas to compete in Gainesville, Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on April 24.

Equestrian:

TCU’s equestrian team competed at nationals for the ninth-straight year.

The No. 7 Horned Frogs were defeated by the No. 10 seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls on the opening day of the 2015 NCEA National Championships, 13-3.

TCU fought hard against the Cowgirls, but concluded their season at 6-8 overall.
