TCU Soccer defeated Maryland 2-1 in it’s home opener Friday night at Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, improving to 2-3 on the season.

It was the second straight victory for the team, having dropped the first three matches on the schedule before beating Illinois State last Sunday.

The Horned Frogs earned the win in the final minutes of the game in front of a crowd of 1,235.

“It was an awesome crowd tonight,” TCU Head Coach Eric Bell said. “It’s good to be home. The field was in excellent condition and it was a great night to play a quality opponent. Pulling out a victory was even better.”

After Maryland took a 1-o lead into halftime, TCU answered when junior Michelle Prokof scored her second goal of the season to tie the game.

The Frogs took the lead when freshman Faith Carter scored her first career goal in the 87th minute of regulation. The Frogs would hold on for the win.

“Faith is coming along,” Bell said. “Everyone’s process is different and for her it’s been trying but she’s coming along nicely and getting more and more confident by the day. I expect by the end of the season she will be a very good player.”

TCU goalkeeper Shannon Coffer stopped 4 of 5 shots on goal for the game.

“A big credit to Shannon as she made some pretty big saves for us,” Bell said. “The back line has been performing very well in front of her. They are getting to the point where they are upset giving up goals which is a good thing for us.”

The team returns to action when they host Oral Roberts University on Sunday. Match-time is set for 1 p.m.
