The powwow originally referred to a healing ceremony conducted by tribal spiritual leaders. Now the powwow is a large group gathering and is one of the only ways that indigenous people can pass on historically endangered traditions.

At his Tuesday press conference, coach Gary Patterson responded to the Monday arrest of two of his players on burglary-bodily injury charges.

Patterson praised Tuaua’s character but said he may have to face consequences for his actions. He added that Monday’s arrests are “not even close to what happened south of here.”
