TCU is bringing in well-known celebrities for this year’s Homecoming events to engage the student body and keep them involved post-graduation.

There will be plenty of school spirit on the Commons Friday night, as the marching band and cheer squad will get everyone in attendance excited for Saturday’s football game against Texas.

The Homecoming pep rally will be headlined by a Hunter Hayes concert and fireworks show afterwards.

“With Hunter Hayes coming to TCU, we have a bigger artist this year for FrogFest than we have had in the past,” said Brad Thompson, the assistant director of Student Activities.

The festivities will continue after the fireworks show at Schollmaier Arena, where Shaquille O’Neal, going by his alias DJ Diesel, will host the Schollmaier Live basketball kickoff.

Schollmaier Live will include a three-point contest, a dunk contest and performances from a couple of DJs.

Kelly Lee, the Student Activities coordinator, said that the goal for Homecoming in the future is to get more students involved now so that they will stay involved as alumni.

“A lot of our ideas with bringing in a bigger artist and bringing in Shaq is driven by what we want Homecoming to become in the future,” Lee said. “I hope that Homecoming this weekend will remind the students of the legacies left here at TCU so that one day, they will come back home to TCU.”

On Saturday, TCU football will take on the Texas Longhorns at 2:30 p.m. at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Frogs will be donning new uniforms when they take the field Saturday with red trim on their helmets and red numbers on their uniforms.

The pep rally will take place on the Commons at 6:00 p.m. Friday, with the Hunter Hayes concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Intermittent rain is expected Friday with temperatures in the high-40s to low-50s.

Schollmaier Live will begin at 8 p.m.
