Thank you Congress for trying to alleviate some of the pressure off of students’ pocketbooks.
TCU has recently adopted a pattern of 8 percent annual tuition increases, and with the national average at 6.3 percent, the university may be at risk of being put on a national watch list.
Members of the faculty have expressed concern that being put on such a “watch list” could negatively affect new-student recruiting, but if tuition continues to rise like it has recently, students will be looking elsewhere anyway.
TCU does a wonderful job of allocating scholarships and helping students cope with private school tuition, but if this tuition hike continues, the population at TCU can only become less-diverse.
Congress has stepped up to the plate to tackle an issue that is plaguing students at public and private schools alike. Tuition has soared in recent years, and the world of financial aid and scholarships has become even more difficult to navigate.
Higher education should be available to all, not just those who can afford it, and in passing this act, Congress is clearly doing its best to ensure that every student has access to a college education.
