As summer boils down, the live music turns up in the 109. Big Mike’s Box of Rock is playing their weekly performance Tuesday, August 9 at The Moon. Big Mike’s Box of Rock plays your favorite classic rock songs from the 60‘s to the 90‘s. You may want to arrive before 11 p.m., because eager fans usually pack the place before midnight.
Perdition, a Punk/Rock band from Fort Worth, is playing at 10 p.m. Wednesday, August 10 at The Moon, followed by Nightlights, and Samuel Caldwell’s Revenge. Samuel Caldwell’s Revenge is also a Punk/Rock band, from Denton, Texas. The band split up a few years ago, but is now back together, and ready to rock.
On Thursday, August 11 The Aardvark will be the hot spot for great music. Taproot, and Picture Me Broken will be performing, starting at 10 p.m. Taproot claims to be “melting faces and mending hearts since 1997.” In 2002, their rock album, “Welcome” sold over 51,000 copies in the first week, and was No. 17 on Billboard 200. From Redwood City, CA, Picture Me Broken is a Rock/Screamo/Pop band that started out playing classic rock covers even before attending middle school. Picture Me Broken received two awards in 2009 including, MTV’s Best Breakout Artist, Bay Area and Purevolume’s Top 20 unsigned Bands of 2009. If you are looking for energetic music, spunky lyrics, and a good time, this is the show for you.
Get your cowboy boots on for Jordan Smith at Rock Bottom, Friday, August 12. The show starts at 10:30 p.m., with free cover, and late night menu. That’s my kind of late night music.
On Saturday, August 13, Maren Morris, Derek Larson & the Leavers, Mills & Co, and Gaston Light will be performing at The Moon. Maren Morris writes her own songs, sings, and plays the guitar. She completed her first pop country CD when she was 14 years old. Fort Worth Weekly named her 2007 Songwriter of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year for 2006 and 2007. She was named Rising Star of the Year at the 2005 Terry Awards. Derek Larson & the Leavers Rock/Country/Blues album, “Takers and Leavers” was nominated by Fort Worth Weekly for Texas Music Band of the Year. One of their most popular songs, “If That’s Alright” was named song of the year, also by Fort Worth Weekly.
