After defeating Centenary College at home to open the season, the TCU Swimming & Diving team will travel to South Bend, Ind. on Friday to compete in a dual meet against Notre Dame, Michigan and Oakland.

The meet will last through Saturday. Both the men’s and women’s teams are 1-0 on the young season.

The Frogs lost 10 seniors to graduation, including nine-time All-Mountain West diver Kyle Callens.

Freshmen on both teams had great meets last time out.

On the women’s side, Ariel Bond, Ali Bleasdell, Mackenzie Schuler, Elizabeth Oster and Van-Anh Hoang all notched victories.

For the men, Thor Stenfjord, Josh Mangus and Matt Korman all won their debut races.

Korman was even named TCU Athletics Male Student-Athlete of the Week.

Senior Edgar Crespo spent his summer swimming against international competition. Other school record-holders Friedrich Grott and Michael Franz returned this year.

Notre Dame and Michigan are widely considered to be powerhouses in swimming and diving. Notre Dame recently sent seven student-athletes to the Olympic trials while the Michigan men are the defending Big 10 Conference champions.

This would be the season-opener for Michigan, Notre Dame and Oakland.

The Mountain West Conference has dropped men’s swimming and diving for the 2011-2012 season, so the men’s team is embarking on a dual-meet schedule in an attempt to mitigate lost conference meets.

The team will compete in the Big 12 Conference next season.

Notre Dame Relays

When: Saturday, 5 p.m CT and Sunday, 11 a.m. CT

Where: South Bend, Ind.

Who: the University of Notre Dame, the University of Michigan and Oakland University

What’s at stake: The ND Relays will be the first road test for TCU’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams since the Mountain West Conference did away with a conference schedule this year.

Last time out: Both Frog teams notched season-opening victories Friday night when they hosted Centenary College. The men won 111-89 while the women won 107-83.
